FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can someone who has never been to a guest ranch enjoy the experience?  Yes, most of our guests have little or no riding experience and our expert wranglers will teach you about western riding.  In addition, there are lots of other activites for non-riders to enjoy.

Does Rancho De La Osa provide riding lessons?  Yes, please click here for further information.

Do I have to saddle a horse?
No, we will saddle your horse for you.  However, if you are keen to help out around the corral and assist with grooming you can do so - check out our Wrangler's Assistant getaway for more details.

Is a horse selected for me or can I choose one?  Our expert wranglers will choose a horse for you based on your riding experience.  Novice riders will be given gentle mounts whilst experienced riders will be given more spirited horses. Where possible, we encourage you to keep the same horse each day so that you can bond with your mount.

If I am an experienced rider, do I have to stay in a nose-to-tail line?  At Rancho De La Osa, we will evaluate your riding skills and provide you with an experience suited for your comfort level. Some guests participate in cattle round ups, whilst others prefer a more sedentary experience. Because of liability issues, we cannot allow you to gallop but loping and trotting are fine, subject to your riding ability.

If I want to ride but someone in my party does not, is there something else for them to do?  Most certainly, we offer a variety of non-riding activities including nature walks, guided hikes, mountain bike rides, croquet, boccie, swimming and bird watching - please click here for further information.

Are children welcome at Rancho De La Osa?  Of course, families with well-behaved children are most welcome.

What is the terrain like?  Rancho De La Osa is located in the high Sonoran Desert, a beautiful wilderness that includes grassland and rocky mountain terrain.

What is the best time of year to visit?  The most popular time to visit is between September and July, however it is beautiful here year round!

What kind of accommodation can I expect?  The territorial-style guest quarters, made from ancient clays of the ranch, are wonderfully serene, simply elegant and perfectly weathered. Our 21 adobe guest rooms are uniquely and vibrantly furnished with Mexican antiques.  All rooms are ground level with separate entrances and private bathrooms. Each has a porch that opens to mountain views.  Most rooms have a wood burning fireplace.  All rooms are in close proximity to the pool, hot tub, corrals and dining areas.  Please note that the guests rooms do not have telephones or TVs.

How do I know it's time to eat?  We will ring the bell three times a day: breakfast (8.00 am), lunch (1.00 pm) and dinner (7.00 pm). If you're within a mile of the ranch, you'll hear the historic bell calling you for a magnificent meal. Social hour, with snacks, in our historic mission outpost cantina starts at 6.00 pm.
